Think you have a roof leak? Now’s the time to get it repaired

With winter fast approaching, wet weather is only going to become more frequent. And that means your roof is going to have a job on its hands to keep your property dry.

So if you think you have a roof leak – perhaps you have noticed a few water droplets coming from the ceiling over the summer or you have seen a tile that is loose on your roof – it is definitely worth having your roof inspected now to ensure that it is fit for purpose.

This way, you can rest safe in the knowledge that your roof will protect your property from everything winter has to throw at it.

What if I don’t have a roof leak?

Even if you don’t think you have a leak, it’s worth having your roof inspected at this time of the year just to be on the safe side. Rain and high winds can cause a roof to leak and melting snow, ice and frost can find its way into the smallest of gaps too. Many roof leaks are what we class as ‘slow leaks’, which are a little like slow tyre punctures in that they take a long time to become apparent. Slow leaks can often be more damaging to a roof than a regular leak as moisture can build up in one spot for a long time, causing mould growth and timber to rot. This kind of damage can be very costly to fix, or even irreversible.

Our roofing inspections

At Roundhay Roofing, we have already started our seasonal roofing inspections for people in the Leeds areas. We like to inspect roofs when it’s dry because it’s easier to test a roof for leaks and to spot any areas that hold moisture. It’s also safer for us. Our recent jobs have uncovered roofs in a wide range of conditions, with some as good as new and others a little worse for wear. The most common repairs we’ve made recently are for lead work and the replacement of broken and cracked tiles. These are fairly common on ageing properties and they are relatively cost-effective to sort out. We’ve also cleared countless gutters!
