09 Jul How to choose a roofer
Your roof is the main part of your home that keeps the elements out. As such, any repair work or renovation work must be performed by a competent individual or a trustworthy and reputable roofing company. But how do you choose a roofer?
Below, we have five steps for doing so.
1. Meet them and judge their character
There’s no better way to get a sense of what somebody is all about than by meeting them in person. Many roofers including ourselves offer free on-site inspections alongside no obligation quotes so meeting a roofer is easier than you might think. Doing so will help you to judge the character of the person and decide whether they are trustworthy.
2. Get testimonials
It’s important to assess the quality of a roofer’s work. The best way to do this is to ask the roofer for testimonials. Most roofers will display testimonials on their website and in their marketing material but you should go further and ask for references – people who you can actually talk to in order to get a sense of how competent and fair the roofer really is.
3. Research their history
Some roofing companies have been around longer than others and the longer a company has been offering its services, the more reputable it is. We have over 30 years of experience in the roofing industry for example. If a company is really young and there’s very little information about them online, this can be a sign that they are not to be trusted.
4. Get multiple quotes
As nice as a roofer appears to be, they may still be trying to rip you off. We recommend that you try and seek a minimum of 3 local quotes for your roofing project to get a decent idea of the cost. This will also benefit out first step above. With multiple quotes at hand, you can be sure that the price you are looking to pay for your roofing work is the right price.
5. Look for accreditations
Lastly, roofers should have accreditations. Our own accreditations include FMB, NFRC and Trust Mark. Accreditations aren’t just a fancy logo that pull in more business for roofers – they are a sign of trust and quality, and proof that roofers work to the highest standards because these organisations have a strict code of practice that must be adhered to.
